There is no stopping Oscar-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal as he continues to launch himself into multiple film projects.
In his latest collaboration with filmmaker Guy Ritchie (Snatch, The Man from U.N.C.L.E and Sherlock Holmes), Gyllenhaal plays a lead role in the upcoming action-thriller The Interpreter. Gyllenhaal’s outstanding experience as an action hero is set to please a worldwide audience, in what could be an Oscar-winning performance.
The Interpreter
Gyllenhaal plays the role of Sergeant John Kinley, who is on his last tour of duty in Afghanistan. He teams up with a local interpreter named Ahmed to survey a region, but they become lone survivors when their unit is ambushed on patrol. They fight off enemy combatants and Kinley becomes severely injured, leaving Ahmed no choice but to risk his own life to carry Kinley across miles of “gruelling terrain,” and get them to safety. Kinley finally returns home to the United States but finds out his partner Ahmed was not given safe passage to America, as promised.
Kinley, devastated and desperate to help Ahmed, sees him return to the same war zone to search for Ahmed and his family before the local militias get to them. The Interpreter is set to be an intense, action-packed film that will have you on the edge of your seat and in tears at the same time. This film will bring to light all heroes that have been to war and will be an honour to all unspoken heroes who have risked their lives for the good of all.
Insights and Inspiration
Ritchie’s inspiration and conviction for The Interpreter came from listening to real-life stories of soldiers and their interpreters, who risked their lives in the Afghanistan War. The film is co-written by Ritchie, along with scriptwriters Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies. Davies worked most recently on Wrath of Man and The Gentlemen. Production company STXfilms is funding the film and also released the news of the collaboration. The Interpreter is set to begin filming on location in Spain, on 10 January 2022.
Ritchie has also been busy with multiple projects including his upcoming spy film Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre. It is a story about an undercover mission to stop a billionaire arms broker from trading deadly weapons. The film has an exciting A-list cast lined up including Jason Statham, Hugh Grant, Bugsy Malone, Cary Elwes, Aubrey Plaza and Josh Hartnett.
Operation Fortune is also funded by STXfilms and is set to be released on 21 January 2022. With Ritchie at the helm and Gyllenhaal playing the lead role, The Interpreter is going to be exciting and all action, so make sure you strap yourselves in ready to enjoy the ride.
