Taylor Swift dropped “Midnights” on 21st October, 2022. The album, which came together in a series of middle-of-the-night sessions with Swift and producer Jack Antonoff, is already breaking records. The Guinness World Records cite that the album is the most streamed on Spotify in 24 hours (184.6 million streams). Additionally, it has the most one-day streams of an album on Spotify (184.6 million streams); and is also the most streamed act on Spotify in 24 hours (228 million streams).

Swift is on A Journey of Transformation

Throughout  2020’s “Folklore and Evermore”, Swift stays away from autobiographical songwriting, discovering new emotional depths in fictional stories. In a career based on meticulously thought out and personal storytelling, she gave herself the gift of emotional distance for the first time. In “Midnights”, however, she returns to writing in the diary-style, addressing her inner turmoil.

The tracks on the new album are a pure form of “collage,” Swift describes, “of intensity, highs and lows and ebbs and flows”—a diary routine , perhaps—its pieces wrap around eachother through Swift’s vocals, which take the audience on a journey of transformation in a powerful mode.

She goes on to describe the album as;  “a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face.”
