After the success of Les Miserables, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd and Mamma Mia!, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is set to transform into a film. Sony Pictures will produce the Tony Award-winning musical with stage producer of the original production, Paul Blake and screenwriter Douglas McGrath, who wrote the musical.

Tom Hanks is also on board as a producer with his company Playtone.

Since the film is in the early stages, casting hasn’t started and there’s no word yet if the cast of the stage version would be offered roles. There’s also no word from Carole King for if she would be involved.

Michael de Luca, from Sony, has expressed his and the company’s excitement:

“Theatrical audiences both on Broadway and in the West End have responded to Beautiful not only to relive Carole King’s timeless classics, but to experience the ways they illustrate her triumphant and joyful life story.”

First performed in 2013 and currently on Broadway, Beautiful focuses on the life of Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Carole King, and her rise to stardom. The film will feature her songs including ‘(You Make Me Feel) Like a Natural Woman’.
