Nostalgia is strong with Disney.

The company has announced the production of a live-action Mulan film just when you started wondering when there would be another remake. This follows a series of classic rejuvenations (Alice in Wonderland, Maleficient, the recent Cinderella and the upcoming Beauty and the Beast) and it’s got an ‘eep’ from us!

It was recently announced that The Jungle Book and Dumbo, with director Tim Burton attached to the project, would also be transformed anew, and if we’re lucky, a live-action Lion King too. Narnia did well with the CGI lion Aslan so it’s a possibility (another ‘eep).

Disney hinted that the new Mulan would take on a more historical angle, but gave no word or confirmation on ruling out the talking dragon Mushu, voiced by Eddie Murphy in the animated version, or whether we can anticipate a singing and dancing affair.

So far among the crew are Chris Bender and J.C. Spink as producers, and Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin as screenwriters. No cast members or director are attached to the film nor a release date scheduled at the moment.

Hopefully the new Mulan will be swift as a coursing river like its predecessor and bring honour to female warriors who challenge social norms. Hi-yah!
