After years of rumours, Lucasfilm has confirmed that there will be another Indiana Jones film, but Harrison Ford reprising as the titled character is still in speculation. Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, said on the new installment: “When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.” Kennedy added that production can only start once they get the script right.
To be produced by Disney and Lucasfilm, it’s unclear if the franchise will be rebooted or if this new film will simply be a sequel. It’s speculated that Steven Spielberg might return to direct and on the lines of a reboot, Guardian of the Galaxy’s Chris Pratt would take on the iconic role – he commented “awesome” on the rumour, but urged us not to get our hopes up.
Ford expressed excitement about returning to the franchise, saying that playing Indiana Jones again would be “perfectly appropriate.”
“It’s okay for me to come back again with a great movie around me where I doesn’t necessarily kick that much ass.”
Maybe we’ll see the retired adventurer mentoring his successor? The new film will be the fifth entry to the franchise, following Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), The Temple of Doom (1984), The Last Crusade (1989), and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008). Since the company is the owner, Disney also has the option of remaking other films produced by Lucasfilm including Willow and Radioland Murders. Stay tuned…
