Set against the beautiful French Riviera, the Dior 2016 Resort collection was a spectacular highlight in a sea of recent cruise collections. The fashion house certainly did not disappoint, presenting a collection both abstract and traditional, complete with bold colours and asymmetrical designs. Outside the unique Bubble House that played host to the event, fireworks – as mesmerising and vibrant as the clothes themselves – cascaded above the Riviera in a fitting tribute to the inspiration behind much of the collection.

Dior creative director Raf Simons stated the collection was inspired by the Southern French aesthetic, with some of the dresses reflecting the brilliant blues and greens of the Riviera, along with outfits for any occasion – from a day at the beach to the most formal of events.

The Bubble House is fashion legend Pierre Cardin’s personal, retro futurism home just outside Cannes, also known as Palais Bulles. The house exudes a playground vibe filled with plastic tubes and holes whilst retaining a sense of luxury living. The fact it took place at the Cardin residence was no coincidence: he designer played an integral role to Dior’s New Look era in the 1940s. It was a nice touch by Simons to circle the brand back to its former roots.

Whilst the show was originally meant to take place in Los Angeles, Dior couldn’t resist going with the Bubble House when it became available – which it is to any member of the public. But before you start packing your bags, you should really know the going rate of rental: $1,125. Per day.

The man himself, Mister Pierre Cardin, was on hand to enjoy the festivities alongside Marion Cotillard, Zoe Kravitz, Theresa Palmer and Dakota Fanning. Fanning in particular was impressed by the show, revealing that she “liked the short flouncy dresses and skirts, I always look at things that are short because I’m a shorter girl and I can’t wear the things those really tall girls wear.”

She was even more taken by the setting:

“It’s amazing. It’s so great to be in this location. It’s really kind of crazy.”

In the past month, a multitude of fashion houses have taken to many incredible locations – Chanel to futuristic Seoul, and Louis Vuitton to the desert heat of Palm Springs – yet we cannot deny that Dior tops the list of locations. The adorable house, backed by the undeniably breathtaking French Riviera, was an absolute winner and testimony to the creativity within the current creative department of Dior.
