Hannibal’s Season 3 Promises To Cook Up A Stormy Feast

In case you’ve missed the news, a sneak peek at Hannibal’s upcoming third season was delivered as an unforgettable appetizer a few days ago. We were given a glimpse of Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) in exile with his confidante and apparently now-wife, Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson).

We were also surprisingly treated to a first glimpse of the much-anticipated villain Francis Dolarhyde, aka the Red Dragon, aka the Tooth Fairy, who is played by The Hobbit’s Richard Armitage. In recent interviews, he has been called a favourite on set and actually scared the shit out of the crew with his scenes. Based on the show’s humanised approach to villains and its grotesque but beautifully crafted style, the Dolarhyde scenes will make us love and hate him as much as Hannibal.

Developer, writer and executive producer Bryan Fuller guarantees that: “a lot of what we see with Dolarhyde is just him alone in a room struggling with his insanity.” He said, “I wanted the audience to be so confused with this character that we get to know him, and we get to see this man who is suffering, from his mind eating him alive from the inside out.”

Well, get ready to say goodbye to our morals again.

“A blank slate”, Season 3 will continue to set up Hannibal as a character and indulge his life before he was caught and locked up, the events of the Red Dragon storyline and hopefully the Silence of the Lambs (1991). Hannibal will return on June 4 in the U.S. and for Australia, it will return on July 2 (Showcase/Foxtel).
