Like The Very First Time: Madonna to Tour Australia for the First Time Since 1993

It has been nearly a quarter of a century since the Queen of Reinvention graced Australian shores and ears. Finally, as a leg of her Rebel Heart tour, Madonna finally returns to the land of sweeping plains, in conjunction with her first ever New Zealand show.

Confirmation from Billboard excites us further, stating that the Material Girl will be performing in early 2016, giving Australians nine months to prepare our hearts and bank accounts to witness this living legend perform her craft. Madonna will forge a path up the east coast of Australia, performing two shows in each of Australia’s biggest cities, starting with Melbourne, then Sydney, and wrapping up in Brisbane.

Considering that Australia has now become a regular touring destination for world famous artists such as Beyoncé and Elton John, it is somewhat surprising that Madonna has waited so long to return. Nevertheless, the Vogue singer is on her way, locked in for six shows spanning over 16 days. The seven time Grammy Award Winner’s performance of the 1993 Girlie Show: Live Down Under Tour is sadly Australia’s most recent memory of Madonna in our presence. Thankfully, we are but months away from refreshing that memory.

The Rebel Heart Tour kicks off in North America in September, beginning Australia’s countdown until the presence of Madonna can be felt in our arenas. Madonna’s most recent track, “Bitch I’m Madonna”, featuring Nicki Minaj will no doubt be a crowd favourite.
