We are living in the age of the super hero movie and box office figures suggest that we can’t get enough of them. It would seem that Marvel Studios knows this and is planning accordingly.
Recently studio president Kevin Feige explained that “The comics always make the path. We get the fun of saying ‘yeah let’s choose this way or let’s choose this way.’ It’s usually a ten-year cycle, sometimes a little less,” according to Hunger TV.
These comments indicate that there’s no end in sight for the Marvel movie making machine with the indication that these movies often take up to ten years to get to the screen. With that kind of forethought there’s no doubt that Marvel has at least the next decade planned out with many more comic book characters coming to life.
One such avenue that Feige hinted at was the possibility that we may see a gay super hero sometime in the future. Speaking at a press day for Ant-Man, Feige told journalists that he anticipated a gay hero to appear in a Marvel movie “within the next decade or sooner.”
Gay characters have started to become common place in the comic book cannon so it would appear that the ground work is already being laid for an equal opportunity workplace for the homosexual super heroes of tomorrow.
