Full refunds are being offered after Tyler, the Creator announced he has cancelled his scheduled September Australian tour.
The news follows controversy sparked by feminist group Collective Shout, who have been calling for the country to reject Tyler’s visa application over his “songs advocating rape and extreme violence against women.” The group also called for his rejection because of his history of antics during live performances.
“We would much rather come to Australia when it isn’t surrounded in controvery,” Tyler said on Facebook via Frontier Touring. “I love my fans there and hopefully I’ll be back soon,” adding “Don’t do drugs.”
Collective Shout’s issues with Tyler’s attitude and lyricism have pushed an ongoing feud. In 2013 a member from the group reported him to the Australian police after he launched a tirade against her during a live performance.
Last month, Tyler took a sarcastic jab at Collective Shout’s director Coralie Alison, falsely claiming his visa had been denied. Whether Tyler was pushed to cancel his show because of the feminist group or low ticket sales, it appears as though the decision came from Tyler himself.
