FIB’s TOP MODELS Volume 63 – Sexiest Girls: Marloes Horst

The world is full of beautiful people. But being sexy dwarfs beauty — it is more than just a pretty face or nice physique. When you look at the Sexiest Girls we have chosen, you see a common factor: they all own their sexuality. There will always be critics, but being sexy is about having the cheers of admiration drown the whispers of jealousy.

So each week, let FIB give you a glimpse into our upcoming book, TOP MODELS Volume 63 — Sexiest Girls. Be warned, though: some of these women can make Kate Moss jealous.

She is the model every fragrance, high fashion, lingerie and swimwear brand wants. With a career ascending to new heights each year, and a major leagues beauty campaign under her belt, Marloes Horst is one to watch.

Horst was born in Utrecht, Holland, on March 8, 1989. Growing up in the country, Horst had never even heard of Vogue when she began modelling. If it weren’t for a friend that asked Horst to send photos to a model agency with her, the top model’s life might have turned out very differently. Horst signed with IMG Paris in 2007, and was almost immediately photographed by Valerie Phillipa for her first editorial in British Elle. Six months later, Horst was named “Model of the Week” by  Models.com. She also fronted two Italian Magazines, D and Grazia.

After a strong start to 2008 featuring in an advertisement for Esprit and the cover of Grace, Horst signed with NEXT Model Management, which proved one of her best career moves. Her career shot up and she made her runway debut for Prada in Milan, but regards this only as a stepping stone to her big break – a fragrance campaign for Valentino’s “Rock n’ Dreams” shot in Paris by Glen Luchford. To communicate the size of this honour, also featured in the campaign were supermodels Siri Tollerød and Erin Heatherton.

Following this success, 2009 saw Horst front magazines including Velvet Italy, L’Officiel Netherlands, Ponytail, and Flair Italy. She also featured in editorials for Vogue Russia, photographed by KT Auleta, Italian Amica and Dazed and Confused, each shot by Alessandro dal Buoni, and editorials for S Magazine, Zoo Magazine, Marie Claire Italy, and Black Magazine. Horst capped off her amazing year on the runway in London for Topshop.

In her ascendance to top model fame Horst showed no signs of slowing down, as in 2010 she was chosen to feature in the annual Pirelli calendar. She also featured in campaigns for H&M, Anteprima, and Lança Fragrance, and walked for Chanel in St Tropez.

Horst said in an interview with WWD Magazine that every editorial model wanted a fragrance commercial to launch their career, and she would know, having gotten her big break in that way. In 2011 Horst was again given the opportunity to be the face of a fragrance, this time for Diesel’s “Fuel for Life” fragrance. Horst was perfect for the role, encapsulating the concept of the perfume as “the symbol of youth, freedom and effortless sex appeal, always fashionable and always comfortable.

Also in 2011, Horst became the face of Calvin Klein swimwear. She is extremely well-known for her adaptability, from high fashion, to swimwear, to lingerie, and this campaign showed her talent extremely well. Vogue quoted Horst saying “While I’m on set I think to myself, you’re already stripped down in your underwear in front of everyone so just smile and twirl!”

Though not appearing in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, or becoming a VS Angel, Horst is a popular model for the lingerie brand’s catalogue collection. She began to model for Victoria’s Secret in 2008 for their Pink Collection, and in 2013 moved to their central line. Horst was also chosen to model for Sports Illustrated’s 50th Anniversary Swimsuit Issue in 2014.

One of Horst’s exceptional talents is her consistency. In her third major fragrance campaign, DKNY’s “Be Delicious,” she captures the essence of the fresh, fruity perfumes, looking effortlessly radiant in every photograph.

The coup de grâce of a top model is a beauty campaign, and only the best of the best are chosen. In 2014 Horst reached this peak when she was chosen as the face of Maybelline New York. Jerome Bruhat, Global Brand President of Maybelline, said of Horst “Marloes embodies the Maybelline New York woman with her passion for makeup and her New York City energy and ambition.”

Horst has had an extremely busy year in 2015 as the face of Levi’s, fronting Glamour Spain and Netherlands and Elle France, and appearing in editorials for Harper’s Bazaar China, Allure Magazine, Vogue Netherlands, Dutch Vogue, Marie Claire UK, and Grazia France.

Just for the anecdote: outside of modelling, Horst enjoys dancing and surfing, and she is dating actor Alex Pettyfer.
