Moolman’s works are formed at the intersection between vintage aesthetics and the fashion-forward culture of modern-day South Africa. Hailing from Cape Town, she is part of a new zeitgeist of young South African photographers who explore their roots and history while embracing fresh styles and making their mark on emerging cultures. For this reason, she was perfectly suited to shooting the new photo series for EDUN SS16.

“The concept for this project centres primarily on contemporary Soweto, exploring the unique collection of objects and architecture so typical in the homes and streets of the suburb, with strong emphasis on the new female beauty being one of the most important themes, as well as the conflict between the natural and the constructed, nature and city, and a focus on the systems of security so prevalent in current South African society.” – Kristin-Lee Moolman

The photographs present a quirky juxtaposition of kitschy home decor and bold outfits. Throughout the series, Moolman and EDUN were focused on providing an authentic look into the homes and stylistic tastes of people living in Soweto.
