There’s going to be a Fruit Ninja Movie, seriously?

An actual ‘Fruit Ninja’ movie is going to be created. Is it just me or does that sound weird?
I don’t understand the logic of filmmakers sometimes. Yes Fruit Ninja is a highly successful app but just because chopping up fruit with your fingertips is fun does not necessarily translate to high quality movie material. At least with the recently released Angry Birds movie the developers had memorable characters to use as a springboard.

Still all that fruit sure does look tasty.

The film is being produced by Tripp Vinson while Chad Damiani and JP Lavin are working together on the script. Supposedly the film will be family friendly, focusing on a group of ninjas with some sort of dispute against ‘good produce’. As of yet there is no word on any cast, release dates or who will be directing the project.
I fear that the creation of the Angry Birds movie is about to spark a trend of apps being turned into movies and Fruit Ninja is next in line. What will we see next? A Candy Crush movie, granted slicing fruit does sound more appealing than sorting delicious candies. As an MMO strategy game app with viking warriors, Clash of Clans I concede could have potential as a cutesy family friendly movie. It certainly has more obvious potential than Fruit Ninja. Still that does not mean I want a CoC movie. In this age of reboots and remakes, original thought does not have a lot of room to flourish anymore. Filmmakers please get out there and give us something exciting and unique.
