Wonder Woman To Become A Blockbuster Pioneer

Comic Con unleashed a whole bunch of exciting trailers over the weekend. One of which was Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot.

If movie fans, women in particular, have been waiting for a truly powerful female character I think they’ve got in this amazon warrior. No comic book hero is a better symbol of feminism right now. You could argue that Black Widow and Scarlet Witch of Marvel are worthy but neither of them has been given their own film yet, and Black Widow may have been sabotaged by the writers on that front regardless.

This trailer makes it clear that Wonder Woman has no man, needs no man, and can do more than any man could hope to achieve. She, at least in her universe, is completely oppression free. Nothing shouts that louder then when Chris Pine’s character says “I can’t let you do this”, to which Gal Gadot replies “What I do is not up to you.” That right there is a message women have been trying to get across to men for centuries, with various amounts of luck, and the conversation will likely continue long into the future unfortunately.

However, perhaps Wonder Woman can really blast the gender equality issue home harder than any outspoken campaigner in real life is able to. This film will reach a massive audience of all cultures right across the world. Comic book movies are films that are able to speak to everyone, young children as well as older adults and it certainly wouldn’t hurt for Wonder Woman to do a little bit of educating while she’s being a badass and saving the world.

Take a look at the trailer below.

What do you think about the trailer? Can Wonder Woman be a mainstream pioneer for the feminist movement or is she a token that is still being used as an object?
