The Preatures Have Released a New Single, But There’s Something Missing?

Sydney groovers The Preatures have released a new song, but you may notice something missing.

It’s been a long while coming following the release of their 2014 debut LP Blue Planet Eyes, but The Preatures have once again delivered, bringing us their new single ‘I Know A Girl’.

While their new song may appear to have the same infectious sound, that type of sound that makes you want to boogie, ‘I Know A Girl’ is premiering as the band’s first song without original guitarist Gideon Bensen, who is off to establish himself as a solo artist and pursue a solo career.

When asked about the new track, Frontwoman and vocalist for The Preatures, Izzi Manfredi explained “It came together in pretty much a week, so it’s just a song that I wrote about my friends and about girls and their relationships and how they talk to each other,” she told triple j.

Although they’re down a guitarist, the rest of The Preatures gang are in good spirits, wishing Gideon “all the best” with his future endeavours and in the pursuit of his solo career, saying “it can’t be forever” and expressing interest in the idea of one-day reuniting musical forces. A fitting send off was given to Gideon as the band played together for the last time, as a five piece, at Splendour in the Grass.

Even though there will be no Gideon, there has been confirmation (from band members Jack and Izzi) that album number two is well underway. They (Jack and Izzi) have also speculated that they are potentially in the market for a new band member, in order to resume their five piece stage status. Gideon has already released an EP which showcases his solo works, titled Cold Cold Heart, a sound that definitely strays from that typically produced by The Preatures, giving off a more nineties funk vibe, that’s perhaps a bit more sexy. Although it just doesn’t really feel right seeing The Preatures without Gideon Bensen, we’re exciting to see what gems will arise from his newly formed solo career.
