Album of the Week: The xx Will Be Back Soon With New LP ‘I See You’

xx_iseeyou_4000It’s been four years since English post-indie band The xx dropped their last album Coexist. Now the duo is back, and after having just released their new album’s first track ‘On Hold’, they’ve now unveiled the according video.

The record, entitled ‘I See You’, is the band’s Third LP and will be published on January 13 via London-based record label Young Turks. It was produced exclusively by Jamie xx and Rodaidh McDonald, who recorded it earlier this year between March and August in NY, Marfa, Reykjavik, Los Angeles and London. The album will be available as a box set as well, covering three bonus tracks. For collectors, there will be a standard 10-track vinyl and a limited edition 10-track clear vinyl available. On Twitter, the band stated:

“We know these are uncertain times and we hope the joy & love we found making the record will get out into the world, in however small a way.”

The album is said to represent “a more outward-looking, open and expansive approach,” compared to their previous work. Through sharing a couple of mysterious snippets of music via their Spotify, the band has caused huge excitement for the new LP. The three published minute-long extracts were excerpts from songs that inspired the band.

The first released song ‘On Hold’ captures a young romance and the difficulties of naive love through an electrifying sound. The four minute long music video for the song was directed by British photographer Alasdair McLellan, and showcases a young college love and its obstacles with facing the process of maturing in Marfa, Texas. Since its release, the new track hit Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the Hot Dance Club Play Chart and the Best Selling Soul Singles. The group shared the video on their YouTube channel on November 28, alongside the following statement:

“Today we get to share our new video for ‘On Hold’ with you! The video is directed by the brilliant Alasdair McLellan, whose work we all adore… It was filmed in Marfa, Texas, a very special place to us, where we wrote and recorded some of our new album.”

Besides the release of I See You, the band is set to go on their global tour soon, starting in Croatia, Poland and Japan before moving on to South America.
