In an interview with Triple J’s music director, Richard Kingsmill, the band announced that while they spent almost the entirety of last year touring, they have also written and recorded a new album.

The group announced that the album, set to be entitled Go Farther In Lightness, is now about 95 percent done and is expected to be released on 18th August this year.

The group also released a new single track from the album titled ‘What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out’. The banging new, anthemic track is ready for the festival stage. In the stirring style that is familiar to Gang Of Youths, the song provides an upbeat backdrop to lyrics examining universal anxieties, completed with a powerful chorus that inspires you to work beyond your fears.

Much to the dismay of local fans, Gang of Youths has also revealed that they will be leaving Australia to live in London, following the release of their new album. The lead vocalist, David Le’aupepe explained that their “beautiful keyboardist/guitarist Jung is an American citizen and he’s unable to renew his visa for Australia.”

“The Australian government has basically decided that he doesn’t have any reason to be here long term so we can only get him short-term visas and we haven’t been split up since we were like 13, since we met, so we just want to stay together,” said Le’aupepe.

Le’aupepe went on to assure their Australian fan base that they will definitely return to Australia to visit their friends and family. Besides, they think that Australia is “the best country on the planet.”
