New images have surfaced of Alicia Vikander (‘Ex Machina’, ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E’) starring in the newly rebooted upcoming Tomb Raider film based on the 2013 video game of the same name. Vikander steps into the boots of Lara Croft, a famed archaeologist who travels the world in search of artefacts in dangerous tombs and ancient ruins, often crossing paths with nefarious villains with their own agendas.

A fan favourite, Vikander beat out the likes of Cara Delevingne and Daisy Ridley in 2016, for a chance to play the British pop culture icon. Vikander succeeds Angelina Jolie, who you may remember flipped and shot her way through screens in 2001 and a sequel in 2003. This incarnation of Lara Croft will reportedly ditch the stylised action for a more gritty and realistic depiction of the character. Vikander looks perfect in the role of Lara Croft and will surely deliver an amazing performance.

This film will serve as a reboot/prequel to the games, primarily based on the Tomb Raider video game released in 2013 by ‘Crystal Dynamics’ and ‘Square Enix’. The game received critical acclaim for it’s realistic retelling of the fan favourite archaeologist and it’s survivalist nature. The player steps into the role of an unknown Lara Croft on her first adventure following a shipwreck on an uncharted island with dangerous wildlife and a relentless cult with delusions of power that pursue her night and day. It is rumoured that the upcoming movie will be heavily inspired by the plot of the video game in what looks to be a promising franchise.

The film is slated to release in 2018, co-starring Walton Goggins and Daniel Wu.
