To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Entertainment Weekly provided us with the long awaited reunion of the supernatural slaying cast. This is the first time in over a decade the Buffy cast has been seen together. The cast each shared their thoughts on what made the series so special and popular amongst it’s fanbase. “We have been a part of something that’s bigger than us and that still holds up and it’s all you can ever really hope for” said Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer first aired in 1997 until it concluded it’s seven season run 2003. Joss Whedon served as creator and writer for the series’ entirety. It followed the journey of young high schooler, Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar), who discovers that she is the ‘Slayer’, an individual with superior strength and stamina with a flair for slaying vampires and other supernatural beings alike. With the help of her friends, Xander (Nicholas Brendon), Willow (Alyson Hannigan) and her mentor Giles (Anthony Head), Buffy defends the small town of Sunnydale from supernatural chaos.

The series inspired a massive cult following for it’s depiction of typical high school drama blended with monsters to serve as a corporeal manifestation of teenage angst. This, mixed with the witty one-liners, catapulted Buffy into pop culture stardom and transformed the show into a cultural icon of the 1990’s.
