World class heartbreaking crooner James Blake has been busy lately, releasing music with Mount Kimbie and a video clip for a track from his most recent album. Blake has united with the divine Natalie Portman for the dreamy music video for his song “My Willing Heart”.

The black and white video for “My Willing Heart” features a heavily pregnant, underwear clad Portman swimming gracefully underwater and peacefully resting in bed. The camera gaze focuses heavily upon Portman’s baby bump with close ups of her caressing her stomach, at one point the baby is visibly kicking. The film is reflecting on feminine and womanly beauty throughout pregnancy.

The pensive song is from James Blake’s 2016 album of the same name and has a typically smooth and soulful tone. Blake contemplates finding love in a world where he may simply fall in love with the idea of a person or love itself. He croons, “when I see my willing heart, how will I know? Will I walk slow?” Within the context of the accompanying video the song lends itself to a world beyond simply romantic love with its questions of ones own place in finding love with another person. The significance of the track is expanded into the spectrum of a parents’, especially a mothers’, love for their child.

This intimate film contrasts with the darker, more chaotic emotional experience of the Mount Kimbie track “We Go Home Together” and its accompanying video. The song is their first track to be released in four years and is a departure from their earlier work, embracing minimalism and raw accents of the music while simultaneously accentuating the rougher elements of Blake’s vocals. The video adopts an arthouse style using erratic photo montage that is familiar to fans from their previous videos.
