The streaming service that brought us the ever popular doco-series ‘Making a Murderer’ is back with another unsolved mystery. Nearly five decades after Sister Cathy Cesnick death, the case will be reopened for the world to see.
If you’ve been missing that feeling of being a true detective, Netflix has you covered with a seven-part documentary ‘The Keepers’. The new series covers the cold-case murder of a 26-year-old nun from Baltimore whose body was found a couple of months after she went missing.
While her killer still hasn’t been found, several women who were close to Cesnick believed that she was killed to cover-up an alleged underage prostitution and molestation ring at the Catholic school in which she was a teacher at.
The case returned to the spotlight in the 90s after a Jane Doe came forward to share her experience of sexual abuse by the school’s chaplain. The women was identified as one of Sister Cathy’s former students. The Jane Doe revealed that she was taken to see Cesnick’s undiscovered body and told by the priest “see what happens when you say bad things about people”.
Director Ryan White has revealed that due to the case being covered so publicly now, many people have come forward to reveal tidbits of what they know. With Netflix airing ‘Making a Murderer’, the evidence detailed throughout was used to overturn the judge’s original ruling of one of the suspected murderers. It just goes to show that tell-all true crime series’ like these aren’t a waste of air-time.
All seven episodes of the doco-series will be available on Netflix on May 19.
