5 New Tracks To Get You Through The Week

There is so much amazing new music being released every day that it would be impossible to keep up with it all. Here at FIB we have looked around and are giving you a careful selection of some of our favourite new releases for your listening pleasure.

Dounia – Shyne

Dounia is a New York native teenager who already boasts an impressive social media following. She has a sophisticated understanding of social and political issues, well-known for speaking out confidently on issues relating to gender and PoC, as well as championing body confidence. Shyne is the third single released from Dounia since she has actively decided to pursue music, she explained to Dazed, “Music’s never really been a decision or choice rather than a primary outlet. It’s always been a part of how I function.” Groove out with the sultry, 90s RnB infused track from Dounia.

The xx – A Violent Noise (Four Tet Remix)

Electronic extraordinaire Kieran Hebden, better known by his stage name Four Tet released a remix of ‘A Violent Noise’ from the most recent album I See You by romantic, pop crooners and fellow Brits, The xx. The oscillating, saccharine original love song has been transformed into an uplifting, fast paced dance track, only barely enlisting the original vocals on occasion as a faint, complementary undertone. The higher pitched undertones of The xx version are enhanced and placed alongside a deeper adamantly punctuating beat. The song is light and fun, perfect pick me up in the hopes that Four Tet will announce an album to follow up his 2015 release, Morning/Evening.

JMSN – Where Do U Go

JMSN has released the second single in anticipation of his forthcoming album Whatever Makes You Happy that is expected to be released on April 28th. JMSN only released his last album It Is just a year ago as well as his Closer project under the moniker Pearl last August. The newest release is a soulful track, featuring a heart wrenching string section and the strong, confessional vocals of Berishaj driven by impassioned harmonies in the chorus. You will be singing along to this track in no time.

Rich Chigga – Back At It

Rich Chigga is an Indonesian rapper (and comedian) who rose to fame with his 2016 track ‘Dat $tick’ at the age of 16. He has never been to America but has learnt everything he knows about rap music through the internet, his English language skills stemming almost entirely from watching Youtube videos. His newest release ‘Back At It’ was self-produced from his bedroom in Jakarta. The new song was released ahead of his first US tour and was accompanied by the announcement of a full length album to be expected in 2017.

Waxahatchee – Silver

Female vocal harmonies combined with ringing guitars that spark a certain energy and excitement that makes you want to dance and sing along to every word. Waxahatchee feels like a throwback band to your favourite 90s girl bands, reminiscent of bands like Courtney Love’s Hole (without the heroin), you can imagine the song fitting seamlessly appearing into 10 Things I Hate About You. Waxahatchee is a music project from the mind of Katie Crutchfield and ‘Silver’ is her first release since her 2015 album Ivy Tripp. She has announced that she will be releasing a new album titled Out In The Storm on the 14th of July this year.
