Curtains Up: the Stars on the Tony’s Red Carpet

The Tony Awards kicked off a Broadway filled evening at Radio City Music Hall in New York City yesterday.  Stars, as always, strutted the red carpet in all things glamorous showcasing big names in fashion from Michael Kors to Mui Mui and Oscar de la Renta. We’ve collected the best looks and strongest trends of the night!

The Strapless

A timeless gown, the strapless, is always a showstopper. The gown has the ability to balance modern fashion with classic timelessness.

Chrissy Teigen proved this in her white and gold Pamella Roland gown – a modern cut and print paired with a classic side-swept hairstyle, perfect for turning heads. The dress played with abstract lines while still remaining simple and elegant.  Does Chrissy ever get it wrong?

Condola Rashad continued the strapless trend and went bold.  Her Vivienne Westwood gown had folds and scrunches in all the right places and matched her elegant Fred Leighton jewellery.  The gown balanced colour and textures beautifully and gave unique fashion a whole new meaning.

Candice Swanepoel – she’s back stealing the show again!  She wears a dark Prabal Gurung sheer strapless dress and Arlette jewellery to finish off the look.  Her dress was an interesting choice, one of which showed off her figure and while it could have been a little too revealing (especially from the back), she works it!

The Blue Suit

Surprisingly, the men showed off a bit at this year’s Tonys.  Vogue even went as far to say that the men stole the show this year!

Kevin Spacey hosted this year’s Tonys and everyone loved it.  His dark, navy blue Isaia suit really gave him a clean look.  The perfect suit for the event.

Ben Platt went for a similar look but with a more distinctive blue as he walked the carpet in David Hart.  Platt also picked up an award for Best Lead Actor in a Musical.

Andrew Rannells graced the carpet in a blue Ralph Lauren suit and it matched his perfectly gelled hair and classic smile beautifully.

A Touch of Nature and Florals

Anna Kendrick looked cute as a button in a feel-good Miu Miu black dress with a subtle white flower print and a red ribbon to tie up the look.  Though, she made the look stand out with a slick updo and some statement earrings giving her the perfect look.

Denée Benton wore an Oscar de la Renta dress that took natural fashion to a whole new level.  Denée graced the red carpet in a strapless green and white ankle biter dress with what looks like material leaves falling down the dress from the top.  The dress was matched beautifully with her Fred Leighton jewellery and a big contagious smile!

While the above stars proved to turn heads at this year’s Tonys, the best was definitely saved for last.  Liu Wen absolutely stole the show.  She took to the carpet with Zac Posen himself and showed off a big custom Zac Posen off-the-shoulder, full length, ruffled dress that had exceptional floral embroidery and was matched with Tiffany & Co. jewellery.
