FIB Exclusive: Peta and the Wolves ‘Equal Measure’ Video Premiere

Love Swedish-Australian electronic-pop? Can’t get the Thundamentals’ track ‘Think About It’ out of your head and aren’t sure why? We’ve got the answer for you. FIB is pleased to introduce you to Peta and the Wolves, your new favourite electronic pop duo.

Peta and the Wolves

The Swedish pop-indie-electronic sonic landscape is especially fertile ground these days, with some huge acts coming out of Scandinavia from Björk to Lykke Li, Robyn and MØ and of course the two Toves, Tove Lo and Tove Styrke. Equally fascinating are the crossover Australian-Swedish acts like dream-pop twins Say Lou Lou which manage to combine the best of both worlds. Made up with Peta Jeffress and Swedish producer Gabriel Wagnberg, Peta and the Wolves fit neatly into this Australian-Swedish amalgamation, splitting their time between Melbourne and Stockholm. More importantly though, they also bring their own distinctive style of mesmerising electronic-pop to the party.

There’s something of a meeting between a classical vibe to Peta and the Wolves with electronic sounds that takes the music to a different level. ‘Verbal Wars’ which features staccato beats and crescendoing electronic sounds plays with space and vocal delivery to create something consistently engaging. The song is also a clear contrast to the darkness of earlier song ‘Scum’, a brooding and high-intensity song. The intensity is shared on ‘Snow’, a track that bubbles along and rides the contrast between the poppy electronic sounds and the smokey darkness of the lyrics, “I’m preparing a fall and I’m standing on the edge” which conjure up images of isolation and harsh winters up North.

Following the success of their tracks ‘Verbal Wars’ and ‘Snow’ which took out No.1 and No. 2 on triple J’s Unearthed 2016 chart, the duo will be dropping their debut EP soon. In the meantime, FIB’s has the exclusive premiere of their new video ‘Equal Measure’ for your viewing pleasure.

Peta and the Wolves have assembled some heavyweight creative talent for the ‘Equal Measure’ video, enlisting ARIA Award winning Art Director, Elisa Mercurio for directorial duties and fashion stylist Cimon Vozzo. The track drops the darkness of earlier songs and instead building to a plaintive cry, “You were mine and I was yours”. The destructive nature of a relationship is portrayed by two dancers, their bodies contorting, rising and falling to depict the fragility of a relationship in which one person’s love is not fully reciprocated and they have to ask, “If it was my last day would you finally start to listen?”
