The Clowns Are Coming For You in American Horror Stories Cult

If you have a perpetual fear of clowns in gas masks or you’re allergic to bees, turn away, because season 7 of American Horror story is filled with them and is a 10 on the absolutely terrifying scale.

American Horror Story (AHS) has been dropping teaser trailers for new season Cult, which is meant to go to air in less than a month, and Ryan Murphy’s latest efforts have left AHS fans shaking in their boots while simultaneously (as always) confused. We know one thing’s for certain though, and that’s clowns. So many clowns. And bees. Bees coming out of clowns?

The trailers show off the usual AHS eerie, nightmare-induced makeup and wardrobe, with titles like ‘Ritual Scream’ displaying circles of clowns around a blue-haired woman so we’re totally (not completely) horrified. The new promo suggests some serious cultish mayhem and is definitely giving off Purge vibes.

A lot of questions have been circling around by fans (including myself), only adding to the suspense and excitement. Why are some clowns dressed classic creepy and others dressed way more cult-like in black? Why bees? Who the heck is this blue-haired woman anyways? Have the clowns taken over mainstream America and is this where we’re all headed for realsies with the likes of Trump?

Well actually, that last idea may have legs: we know the series begins the night of the 2016 US election, and while there won’t be a Trump and Clinton character, they will be using TV footage of Trump and Clinton for season 7 according to Co-creator and Executive Producer Ryan Murphy. “Yes, it is a true American horror story, and we’re leaning into it,” Murphy said during the THR talk with TV show runners like Jenji Kohan. He continued, “American Horror Story begins with election night and the national conversation and both the euphoria and the fear.” Spooky.

While there are many questions floating amongst AHS fandom, two things are for certain; Trump will definitely be live-tweeting the entire event, and the cast definitely isn’t going to disappoint. With classics like Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson making a return, added members like Alison Pill and Colton Haynes will definitely add that extra creepy spice from what the leaked photos are showing us.

With clowns appearing all over the AHS Twitter feed and the new season on it’s way into our living rooms, guaranteed they’ll soon be appearing in my nightmares too. Stay safe kids.
