‘From a Certain Point of View’: Screw Jon Hamm, We’re More Excited About The Writers!

We’re a little perplexed that everyone’s losing their shorts over the news that tall-drink-of-Hollywood-water Jon Hamm is set to voice Boba Fett in an upcoming Star Wars audiobook… did they completely miss the fact that there is going to be a Star Wars AUDIOBOOK?!

Book nerds alike will likely be rejoicing at the splendid news that From a Certain Point of View will actually be a collection of short stories from a number of well-known authors. But how in Luke’s green island is the news – that a former Mad Men star (albeit with his sultry gravitas) hamming it up for a character that has uttered a mere 28 words in the entire franchise – more exciting than this revelation?!

For this highly-anticipated anthology of intergalactic short stories, publisher Del Rey has employed the wild imaginations of Gary Whitta (Star Wars: Rebels), Pablo Hidalgo (of Lucasfilm Story Group) , Kelly Sue DeConnick (Captain Marvel), Matt Fraction (Hawkeye, Iron Man), Kieron Gillen, Ian Doescher (William Shakespeare’s Star Wars trilogy), Meg Cabot, Nnedi Okorafor (Binti, Who Fears Death), Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Griffin McElroy… phew!

And would you believe they’re not even being paid for this gig? In a noble act worthy of Obi Wan, each writer has donated the proceeds to First Book – a nonprofit that provides new books and learning materials to children in need. In addition, Del Rey has also donated $100,000 to the cause, while Lucasfilm has donated 100,000 books (estimated value $1 million).

Okay, we’ll admit that it is mildly exciting that Jon Hamm will be whispering us sweet Boba Fett nothings, probably literally since the bounty hunter is such a quiet dude. Neil Patrick Harris is also set to tell the story, of an Imperial Officer aboard the Death Star, that will surely have eardrums exploding across the globe.

Needless to say, us nerds here at FIB are well keen for this new and innovative installment from the Star Wars galaxy. At the very least, we’ll have something to tide us over until the next blockbuster film.

From a Certain Point of View is scheduled for release on 3rd of October.
