Mick Rock’s Legendary Photography goes ‘Roman Rhapsody’ For Gucci

The British photographer is most famous for capturing rock n’ roll legends in the 70s. Now he’s taking on fashion for Gucci’s latest campaign.

Mick Rock is known as ‘The Man Who Shot the Seventies’ because of his work covering icons like Queen, David Bowie and The Ramones. Now, he’s been recruited by creative director Alessandro Michele to shoot Gucci’s Cruise 2018 collection called ‘Roman Rhapsody’.

This time his photographs don’t depict rock n’ roll legends, but everyday people in their own homes and gardens in Rome, Italy. It’s no surprise that the shoot feels vintage, with Rock’s influence and Michele’s unique stamp of authenticity. Using a cast of Italian artists set in Rome, it seems to be Michele’s tribute to Italy itself.

“I got constant stimulation from the clothes because they’re so fabulous and they’re colourful. And then of course there’s the personality of Alessandro, who’s an open, giving force!” – Rock

The collection also comes with a short film directed by Chuck Grant. It highlights the colourful nature of the shoot combined with the Roman setting. It focuses on the various details of the collection and adds another element to Rock’s photography.
