Janelle Monáe’s ‘PYNK’ Video is a Rose-Tinted Ode to Pussy Power

Janelle Monáe’s newest music video for her song ‘PYNK’ just dropped yesterday and it is a masterpiece: Monáe sports a pair of vagina pants and dances around to a song that’s all lady power and all class.

‘PYNK’ is the third single off the upcoming Dirty Computer, which, according to the Youtube description of this vid, is a “narrative film and accompanying musical album”. Monáe has teamed with the Canadian underground star Grimes for the track, and you can hear her influence all over it in the high and airy pitch Monáe’s got going on.

Visually, the music video is like they’ve mashed together Solange’s Cranes in the Sky and Dua Lipa’s New Rules and then drenched the result in pink. The video is choreography heavy, with plenty of ladies dancing around with Monáe to that boppy synth beat. It’s also given us a lotta great shots that I’m sure will be immortalised in meme-format by the end of the day. Such as, Tessa Thompson’s head smooshed between Monáe’s vagina-pants-wearing thighs:

Janelle donning a pair of undies with the words “sex cells” embroidered on them and unruly pubes sticking out (brb finding a pair of these on eBay ASAP):

Then, there’s my personal favourite shot which gives us a bunch of synchronised booty’s dropping it like Teyana Taylor taught them to in Kanye’s Fade video:

You better watch the video so you can soak in the pink-washed pussy power cinematography for yourself:

Monáe’s ’emotion picture’ Dirty Computer is due out on the 27th of April 2018, and I for one, hope that the rest of the videos feature just as much, if not more, pussy power.
