Death By Denim: Unearthing Perth’s Music Scene

Fresh. Funky. Groovy.

These are the first words that come to mind when thinking of the sound from the four boys that go by the name Death by Denim. If your ears are yet to be blessed by their music then you are in for a real treat.

Listening to a song for the first time is such a telling moment, it either flicks that internal switch, or it doesn’t. But rest assured, the sounds of these Perth boys will have you wanting to escape work, hop in your car, and just start driving. Death by Denim produce the kind of whimsical and truthful songs that completely steal your headspace, you know the type.

Yet somehow the band has also managed to retain a sense of fun and upbeatness that just can’t be paralleled. I’m here to give you a quick rundown of my absolute favorites:

How Death by Denim’s tracks will resonate with you in your day-to-day life (in a super non-cheesy, completely factual way):

‘Smoke Screen’

Just the beginning guitar riff is enough. It’s so good. Trust me on this. It’s like the feeling of relief and comfort when you have a sip of a well-brewed, much-needed cup of coffee in the morning. A great start leading into an insanely good song.

‘Take Me Far Away Sometime’

This song is a bit more on the sad, reflective side of things, but is perfect for those super long showers where you chuck on some music and end up getting lost in your head, emerging from the bathroom some 50 minutes and several deep-shower-thoughts later.

Don’t try and deny that doesn’t happen to you too. We’ve all been there.

‘Suburban Royalty’

This is one of those songs where, if you are able to yell all the words off by heart, you feel like absolute fire.

‘After Party’

And finally – the boys’ most recent track – ‘After Party.’ This is the epitome of feel-good warmth. If you are the type of person to listen to alternative music while working out, this tune is for you. It’s jive-inducing, groove-moving, perfect for a boogie.

With the promise of new music on the way, it’s an exciting time to see how Death by Denim’s sound will evolve. We’re excited to see what comes next.
