Sometimes, you come across a song or an album that when you listen to it, you know it is going to be an experience you won’t forget.

Two years ago, Ricardo Valdez Valentine, better known as 6LACK, came out with his debut album FREE 6LACK. That album will always hold a special place in my heart. Two years is a long time to not have any music from an artist that you are attached to, however, that is an album that I return to listen to all the time.

FREE 6LACK was an introduction to the Atlanta singer. Now, he has returned with his sophomore album, East Atlanta Love Letter, a continuation of his story. This album consists themes of love and its obstacles. The stories told throughout his songs are honest, emotional and relatable. He has the ability to connect with his listeners through the deep and heartfelt lyrics. With guest features from Future, J. Cole, Offset and Khalid, East Atlanta Love Letter is just what we needed. 6LACK is aware of his artistic strengths and talents and it shines through in each song. He goes the extra mile to outdo himself than the previous song.

‘Sorry’ is a standout track from the album for me. He sings of mistakes he has made in the past and you can truly feel how sorry he is. This track fits his unique voice so well and it shows that he has grown up as a writer and as a vocalist. ‘Seasons’, featuring Khalid, feels like a summer’s day. The instruments, melodies, and both of the singer’s vocals make it feel like a sunny day, something that is so different from the other songs in the album. The record finishes off with 6LACK’s most powerful performance, ‘Stan’. The production remains perfect throughout and the lyrics are poetic and emotional.

6LACK doesn’t hold back in East Atlanta Love Letter and makes no attempt at being someone else. This album pushes boundaries and the transition from singing to rapping makes this album feel like it was definitely worth the wait.
