Introducing ‘Blue Steel’ – Nacho Figueras

Fashion Industry Broadcast and Style Planet TV is proud to announce our latest 11-part, hour long feature docuseries. Over the next six weeks we will be unveiling a tease on each episode. In this Netflix Original Series, presented by male supermodel David Gandy, we explore the emergence of a new kind of God, with the rise of the male Supermodel.

What’s the recipe for a male Supermodel? A dash of charm, five per cent body fat and shredded muscles, a boatload of raw sex appeal, and a decent sprinkle of really good luck.

The ensemble cast of Blue Steel have that something special that has allowed them to stand toe to toe in an industry dominated by the Glamazons of the opposite sex. They are trailblazers and trendsetters. They have both set and broken records for their sex in the business. Most of whom fell into the industry by accident, they’ve left some deep imprints along the way, altering the perception of male beauty standards.

The men depicted within this series have more than their faces on billboards, and
names sewn into the fabric of brands. They have built legends and left legacies, and it’s precisely why they deserve to be called “Supermodels” just like their famous female counterparts.

The amazing stories and trails blazed by:

  • David Gandy
  • John Pearson
  • Mark Vanderloo
  • Markus Schenkenberg
  • Tyson Beckford
  • Tony Ward
  • Travis Fimmel
  • Nacho Figueras

Nacho Figueras

The epitome of tall dark and handsome, Ignacio, “Nacho” Figueras, is the Argentinian polo player that has turned heads in his campaigns for iconic brand Ralph Lauren.

As of 2009 he was ranked as one of the top 100 polo players in the world, often dubbed as the “David Beckham of polo.”

Born on March 4th, 1977 in Buenos Aires, Figueras fell in love with horses and he has been playing polo since he was 9 years old. He turned pro at age 17, playing all around Europe before he joined the White Birch polo team in New York.

As of 2001 he is captain of the Black Watch team which he co-owns with Neil Hirsch. However, it was one fateful night at a dinner party in the Hampton’s that saw Nacho truly thrust into the limelight.

During the party he was approached by photographer, Bruce Webber, who shot all of Ralph Laurenʼs campaigns. To Nacho this seemed like a great chance to earn some more money for polo equipment. “That was very useful, as it meant I could afford better horses, and without the horses youʼre no player.”

In 2000 he posed for his his first ad for the brand and now he is everywhere, on buses, billboards and posters and it is almost impossible to open a magazine without seeing an image of him.

Figueras is almost an uncanny match to Ralph Laurenʼs logo and Lauren himself must have recognised this as it wasnʼt long before he became the f6ce of the Ralph Lauren Black Label in 2005 and he has been under contract with them ever since.

Figueras, was chosen in 2009 to represent the World of Polo fragrances including, Polo Black, Polo Blue and Polo Modern Reserve and he also assisted in the designing process of the Ralph Lauren collection Black Watch offering polo shirts emblazoned with Nachoʼs number, 2.

In 2004, he married photographer and former model Delfina Blaquier. They have four children together, Hilario, Aurora, Artemio and Alba. Polo runs in this familyʼs blood, Hilario also a fan of the sport competed with his father in the St Regis International Cup in 2014.

He and his family travel between their home in Argentina and a rented home in the Hampton’s. Despite being a family man, he has still captured the hearts of many women around the world and in 2009, Vanity Fair readers voted him the second most handsome man in the world. He fell short of first place behind Robert Pattinson.

In 2015, models.com ranked him in the top eighteen of their Money Men but despite his lucrative career in modelling he insists, “I’m not a model, I’m a polo player.” Polo remains his passion and he realised that modelling could not only help him afford it but also raise awareness for the sport. He h6s helped organise matches such as the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan polo classic exhibition which long-time friend, Prince Harry has competed in.

Nacho also made a brief foray into acting appearing as himself in the 44th episode of the CW television series Gossip Girl.

Figueras, also successfully runs and owns a horse breeding ranch with more than 500 horses, the most valuable of which is worth around $300 000 US dollars. He breeds around 70-80 polo horses a year.

In order to create awareness of Polo, he has also tried his hand at writing. He has created a number of romance novels written by ghost writer, Jessica Whitman, which explore the glamorous and competitive life of polo. Figueras thinks of himself as an ambassador to the sport and he hopes that these books can bring polo more attention.

“Polo is the greatest game in the world and my dream is that, even if I cannot get a million people to play polo, I can get a million people to watch it. I want everyone to fall in love with polo.”
