Introducing ‘Blue Steel’ – Alex Lundqvist

Fashion Industry Broadcast and Style Planet TV is proud to announce our latest 11-part, hour long feature docuseries. Over the next six weeks we will be unveiling a tease on each episode. In this Netflix Original Series, presented by male supermodel David Gandy, we explore the emergence of a new kind of God, with the rise of the male Supermodel.

What’s the recipe for a male Supermodel? A dash of charm, five per cent body fat and shredded muscles, a boatload of raw sex appeal, and a decent sprinkle of really good luck.

The ensemble cast of Blue Steel have that something special that has allowed them to stand toe to toe in an industry dominated by the Glamazons of the opposite sex. They are trailblazers and trendsetters. They have both set and broken records for their sex in the business. Most of whom fell into the industry by accident, they’ve left some deep imprints along the way, altering the perception of male beauty standards.

The men depicted within this series have more than their faces on billboards, and
names sewn into the fabric of brands. They have built legends and left legacies, and it’s precisely why they deserve to be called “Supermodels” just like their famous female counterparts.

The amazing stories and trails blazed by:

  • David Gandy

  • Tyson Beckford

Born on April 14th, 1972 in Stockholm, Sweden he had a unique upbringing. He and his brother and sister were raised on one of the islands in the Stockholm archipelago, he says, “I saw horses running outside the window in thefield”.

At 18 years of age he undertook a 12-month stint in the army where he was a tank commander. The army transformed him from a young boy into a muscular and handsome man, but he swears that he would never go back. “I wouldn’t want to do it again, but I’m happy that I did it, because I’m never going to get as little sleep, worse or less food, or harder work. So, after that everything seems easier.”

He planned on studying computer graphic design after the army and go into advertising, but a friend suggested that he should give modelling a go. At first, he didn’t think it was his thing and he thought that he could do it as an extra job. His friend recommended him to an agency in Stockholm and he modelled a little in Sweden. It wasn’t long before he left with a friend and headed to Milan where he did a few jobs.

As fate would have it in 1994, he met photographer Bruce Webber and agent Scott Patterson, who tracked him down after spotting him in an obscure publication. These two were instrumental in launching his modelling career. Bruce Webber was working for Versace at the time and they immediately booked him for a worldwide campaign alongside Helena Christensen and this led to a number of successful campaigns. He appeared in the 1995 Lagerfeld campaign with Nadja Auermann and within a week he featured in the Guess campaign alongside Laetitia Casta and Valeria Mazza. He has since appeared in several of the Guess campaigns and television commercials.

The name Lundqvist became synonymous with fashion brands everywhere and he quickly became recognised as one of the top male supermodels appearing in magazines including, Elle, GQ, Playgirl and New York Magazine just to name a few and has worked with nearly every top men’s designers in the world. He has also graced the runways in Paris, Milan and New York for brands including, Valentino, Versace, Armani, Gucci and Calvin Klein.

He currently resides in New York with his wife, Keyett Ludqvist and their children and can speak fluent English, German, Swedish and a bit of French and Italian.

Lundqvist is not just a pretty face but he is also a professional paintball player for the Jersey Authority in the National Professional League (NPPL) and his brother Maximus is also a professional player. More recently he has dabbled in acting. In 2002 he starred in the French erotic soft-core film, Total Romance: Initiation and its sequel, Total Romance 2: Ultimate Games. He appeared as Fergie’s love interest in her 2006 music video for her song, “Clumsy” and in 2014 he appeared in the film, The Limits, which follows a soldier dealing with PTSD.

Lundqvist is considered one of the top male supermodels and has an incredible career spanning many years, “I never thought I would still be doing it as much as I am today,” and he is still working for many of the top brands to date.
