Comedian and actress Rebel Wilson is set to produce Australia’s first Amazon Original series titled ‘LOL: Last One Laughing‘.

It seems as if Rebel Wilson is going from strength to strength. Following multiple successful roles abroad, Rebel Wilson has been touted for the First Original Australian Amazon series, LOL: Last one Laughing. The show will see Wilson host a game show for stand-up comedians in a six part series showing 10 Australian comedians trying to make each other laugh. The prize? $100,000.
“I’ve already had the chance to work with Alexa and on Audible, so working with Prime Video seemed an obvious choice,” Wilson stated.
This series will follow a similar format to previous Amazon Prime productions in Japan and Mexico.
LOL has been confirmed for a 2020 release and will be shot in Sydney in spring. Amazon are set to announce the comedians in the coming weeks.
Since launching in 2016, this will be the first Australian Original on Amazon Prime. I’m sure Amazon is hoping to attract some new Aussie subscribers to their platform, along with fans of Wilson’s character ‘Fat Amy’ on Pitch Perfect. The head of International originals, James Farrell, is clearly thrilled about the upcoming series.
“Australia was an easy choice for the next country to bring this to and Rebel Wilson was the top of our list to host and star,” Farrell said.
This is a promising acquisition for Australian TV as we’ve been somewhat quiet in the streaming business with very limited shows achieving a global reach. Here’s hoping Rebel Wilson’s presence will break our silent streak and get Aussie’s some more original content to circulate globally.
LOL: Last one Laughing will launch on Amazon Prime in 2020.
