Georgian designer, Demna Gvasalia is packing his bags and leaving the future of Vetements to his brother, Guram Gvasalia, whom he co-founded the brand with in 2014.

Guram Gvasalia will continue to lead the label as the CEO with the goal of “pushing boundaries even further” in mind.

“Vetements has always been a collective of creative minds… What Demna has accomplished over the past few years represents a key chapter in the story of Vetements. We are very grateful to Demna for having contributed to the great momentum of the house”

The brand remains one of the most influential brands in the street-wear game today and has had an impact on the fashion scene since it’s Fall/Winter 2015 debut.

From typical luxury streetwear like oversized hoodies and jackets to meme-like garments, unconventional show venues, and unexpected collaborations, the brand makes conversation and redefines what luxury fashion ‘looks like’ to the majority.

In a parting statement, Demna told WWD that he has accomplished his own personal mission hence why he is leaving.

“I started Vetements because I was bored of fashion and against all odds, fashion did change one and forever since vetements appeared and it also opened a new door for so many.

So I feel that I have accomplished my mission of a conceptualist and design innovator at this exceptional brand and Vetements has matured into a company that can evolve its creative heritage into a new chapter on its own.”

Although it’s quite sad to see him go, Demna’s contribution is just one chapter of the journey and now it’s time for Guram to start a new chapter.

In saying that, the show must go on and we can only wish both Demna and Guram the best in their future endeavours, and look forward to what they’ll bring to the runway next.
