Kravitz has been the second major announcement for The Batman, with Robert Pattinson being the only other confirmed star. In order to secure the role, Kravitz beat out Ana de Armas, Ella Balinska and Eiza Gonzalez, in a rigorous audition process. Kravitz secured the role after a successful screen test with Robert Pattinson.

The film is currently shrouded in mystery, with the DC film universe being a bit of a mess at the moment. Currently, we don’t know where this film sits, but director Matt Reeves is calling it a grounded take on Batman.

“It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been.” Matt Reeves told the Hollywood Reporter.

There has been rumours circulating about other cast members joining the film. Jonah Hill is rumoured to be joining the cast as a villain, along with Jeffrey Wright potentially being the new Commissioner Gordon.

This isn’t the first time that Kravitz has portrayed a comic book character, with the actress appearing in X-Men First Class in 2011.

Kravitz has already received some celebrity support for her casting, with stepdad and fellow DC member,Jason Mamoa, sharing his excitement on Instagram.

Mamoa wrote: “I’m so proud of u zozo bear. On and off screen OHANA. DC WB ohana Lola and Wolfies big sister is CAT WOMAN.”

Even Anne Hathaway, who was the last woman to play the fiery role shared her excitement on Instagram, sharing a stunning photo of Kravitz alongside a touching message.

The Batman is set to begin production early 2020, and is scheduled for a summer 2021 release.
