The Final Rise of Skywalker Trailer

Prepare the tissues. The final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has dropped and it looks absolutely incredible.

Everything has been building to this. 40 years, 8 prior films and one amazing story. The Rise of Skywalker aims to conclude the epic franchise, by tying together all loose ends. Along with this, it aims to bring all the fans together, following the polarising previous installment, The Last Jedi.

Return to Endor?

The trailer opens with protagonist Rey running through a green planet, blocking phaser blasts with her lightsabre. This planet looks awfully similar to the Endor, which appeared in Return of The Jedi. The action is shared with dialogue from Poe, arguing that they are not alone, and people will follow them into a fight.

We also get a shot of the growing resistance. The Last Jedi ended with the resistance shredded to limited numbers. Now it appears that the resistance is growing, with Lando making an appearance at this meeting. Perhaps Lando’s people from Bespin have joined the fight against the First Order.

Reylo

Rey and Kylo cross paths once again, with the duo fighting it off on what appears to be wreckage from the second death star. With this, Kylo claims that he is the only one that knows Rey. Could this be hinting at a relationship? I doubt it, but maybe we’ll see the duo team up together and fight a bigger bad.

The big draw for this trailer is the re-emergence of the Emperor. The Emperor talks over the trailer saying, “Long have I waited and now, your coming together is your undoing.” Who is he talking about? Rey and Kylo? Or could it be the forming of the resistance? At this point it is too early to tell. We also see a frame of what looks to be the emperor on a throne, with Rey interacting with a hooded figure.

C-3PO’s Farewell

Here’s where the tears started to flow. C-3PO was getting operated on by a small creature and told our crew, “I’m taking one last look at my friends”. Oh my goodness. What is happening? Please don’t tell me he’s going to die. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself! A lot of Twitter users also are on edge.

I can’t stress how excited we are for The Rise of Skywalker. It feels as though this is the culmination of everything Star Wars. It looks absolutely beautiful and you better believe that I’ve already got my midnight session tickets. The Rise of Skywalker hits Australian theatres on the 19th of December.
