Australian screen legend Russell Crowe released a three-minute video message on Sunday for Fire Fight Australia, urging for Climate Change action. While Climate Change has been a major obstacle on a global scale for many decades, many have chosen to ignore the science and its impacts on our future generations.

According to Pedestrian TV, the actor says we should reduce our level of carbon emission to slow global warming.

“Science is an ongoing process- we are having a measurable, negative impact on the planet mostly because of our love affair with coal, oil and gas.”

As experts have been warning, humanity has been contributing to great levels of carbon emissions in the atmosphere, warming the earth at a faster rate than the last 2000 years. The legendary actor utilised his influence as a platform to further draw attention to this message, as Australia is currently grappling with the bushfire crisis. The effects can be seen, through the hazardous air pollution and extreme weather changes in many cities.

“Ultimately there’s only one way to mitigate Climate Change, and that is to convert the entire country to renewable forms of energy- wind, solar, geothermal, biomass and renewable generated hydrogen,” said Crowe.

“It doesn’t matter at all how many people engage in decarbonisation of their lives individually. If we don’t erase fossil fuel use as a society, then the extremes in our weather will just continue to increase” he continues, suggesting we move away from using fossil fuels as a nation due to its impact on our planet and to use renewable forms of energy source.

The concert of 10 hours had seen 9 million raised for the National Bushfire Relief, with the video viewed 100,000 times across social media. Although scientists have been warning about global warming for many decades, however when facts are not enough to convince climate change deniers, maybe the words of Russel Crowe will.

We know that the changing climate is real since we are able to see the effects of warming, but if we don’t all do it to preserve the environment as a society we won’t be able to make enough of a difference to limit global warming.
