Splendour Looks Back With ‘Splendour In The Past’

The Coronavirus might’ve cancelled most of this year and its many festivities, however Splendour In The Grass 2020 is not dead just yet. Triple j have just announced ‘Splendour In The Past’ which will bring us archival memories from past Splendour In The Grass festivals all weekend to celebrate what would’ve been their 20th-anniversary event.

If the Coronavirus was just a bad dream and 2020 was all sunshine and rainbows, some of you would be preparing for a wild and wondrous weekend at Splendour In The Grass in just over a weeks time. When the festival announced it’s postponement to mid-2021 there was a shared sense of hopelessness for the existence of music festivals and live music.

Splendour In The Grass 2020 was originally set to occur between July 24th to July 26th with the event now celebrating in 2021 alongside artists Tyler The Creator, The Strokes, and The Gorillaz who are set to headline. Currently, the three headlines are the only confirmed artists playing next year as it is unclear what artists will be returning.

It’s not all bad news though, the legends at triple j have put together ‘Splendour In The Past’ which will be a whole weekend of archival performances, interviews, and more to get you through your Splendour blues.

Triple j isn’t letting a global pandemic stop them from revelling in the past for Splendour’s very special 20th birthday. This weekend from Saturday the 25th to Sunday the 26th July triple j will be broadcasting live performances, interviews, and backstage action every hour from 9 am to 5 pm. Archival audio from past Splendour performances will be heard from Childish Gambino, Gang of Youths, Bloc Party, Lana Del Rey, Vampire Weekend, Florence + The Machine, HAIM, Violent Soho, Thelma Plum, Stormzy, and more.

Triple j have us all dying to know more after sharing some juicy details about their special broadcast this weekend. The two-day radio special will include some of their favourite past memories with fans also getting the chance to share some of their past experiences (I’m sure there’ll be some crazy stories you don’t want to miss). We also can’t wait to hear behind the scenes goss from past Splendour In The Grass festivals involving some very famous artists.

‘Like, remember when a local grandma had to stitch up Kanye’s pants? Or when 16-year-old Lorde got the call to replace Frank Ocean? Well, we do 🙂 And we’ve got the audio to prove it.’ says triple j.
