The Covid-19 pandemic has made it difficult for many individuals and businesses to stay afloat financially. Without a sight to the end, it has affected people both mentally, physically and economically. However, the famous mayonnaise brand Hellmann’s Canada has vowed they would help those in need. Through the game Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH), they’re hoping to convert rotten turnips into real food.

Turnips are a form of currency where players are able to sell them according to Nook’s price of the day (a pseudo stock market if you will). However, the turnips will spoil if players do not sell them within the week they buy them. So, Hellmann’s have created their own island for players to visit and donate said spoiled turnips.

For each turnip that is donated, the company will donate a meal to Second Harvest who will then provide a meal to the hungry. With a maximum of 100 visitors per day, players must direct message the company on Twitter to receive a Dodo code. Their goal is 25,000 meals, an achievable feat as players can purchase a maximum of 9,990 turnips.

In these tumultuous times, it is respectable to see a company giving back to the community in an interactive (but still adhering to social distancing) way.
