Vera Blue (aka Celia Pavey) has released a new electric single ‘Lie To Me’ that exudes tropical summer vibes with groovy electronic notes, electro-charged vibrating synths, and stunning vocals. The song is a fresh electro-pop sound for Vera and is definitely an anthem to get us through to better days.

The single follows the singer’s recent cover of ‘Heroes’ by David Bowie and her ‘Nobody Like You’ collaboration with Louis The Child. This new single is the first official release we’ve heard from the artist in 2020.

Talking about the new release Vera says the song explores the fear and doubts that arise when approaching a new relationship if heartbreak or trauma is in your past;

“When you go through a lot of emotional shit, you can’t imagine yourself in a new relationship,” she said in a press statement.

“Then you suddenly fall into one, and the fear and mistrust can be overwhelming: ‘is this as amazing as it seems – or is it going to blow up in my face again!’”

Vera’s new single ‘Lie To Me’ was produced and co-written by Thom and Andy Mak and engineered by Jackson Barclay. Vera spoke about working with these individuals and the influence they had on the track;

“The lyrics and melodies that I wrote with Thom came from a more poetic and obscure experimental place for both of us. With Andy digging into new exciting sonic landscapes imitating the raw emotion and Jackson bringing the tones to life tracking various instruments through the amazing sounding console and outboard gear at the grove studios, this song had us all wide-eyed and buzzing.”

With Vera releasing her second studio album Perennial back in 2017 it’s unclear when expectant fans will receive a third album. When asked about a follow up to her 2017 album the singer told triple j that some exciting things are on their way;

“I’m working away at something, I’m not sure what it is. There’s a narrative I’m building and there’s a sound that I’m pulling together with my team. There’s some really exciting stuff coming…”

This track is also the first release from the artist since she was recently signed to Republic Records (Lorde, The Weeknd) in America highlighting the success of the singer both domestically and abroad.

Vera’s extraordinary musical abilities and stunning vocals have seen an evolution over the course of her career with her talent and vocal abilities strengthening over time.

“I recently watched some vision of myself when I first started performing – my voice was so sweet and innocent!” she explains. “I could not have reached the belting moments at the end of ‘Lie To Me’ back then. My voice is stronger than it ever has been which enhances what we create in the studio.”
