New Thriller Film Inspired by Karen Meme

From anti-vax to the simply pedantic, we have seen the emergence of all types of Karens. Influential for the wrong reasons, we can now expect a film that narrates the toxic and potentially murderous nature of the ever confusing woman.

We all have heard about the stories of the infamous ‘Karen.’ A Karen is a stereotype of a generally rude, obnoxious white woman who thrives off on picking fights with innocent people for no reason. Like Urban Dictionary eloquently summarises, they are “everything wrong with the typical over entitled western woman and crank it up by several thousand percent.”

From the Bunnings Karen to the can-I-speak-to-your-manager Karen, we have seen a new Karen emerge on our social media feed every other week. They have apparently impacted so many of us that there is now a film inspired by the Karen meme.

Director and writer, Coke Daniels, known for his explicit and comedic films is now creating a new thriller film to highlight the new subspecies of the soccer mum. The crime thriller is simply titled Karen and will focus on a racist Southern white woman hell-bent on removing her black neighbours from her white neighbourhood. The neighbours are also vocal advocates for the Black Lives Matter Movement, which presumably is a big catalyst in the film. According to Daniels, the movie aims to provide an “interesting perspective on social justice and race relations in America.”

Orange is the New Black star, Taryn Manning, will be playing the role of the antagonist as many claim her perfect for the role. The film is currently in the pre-production stage and is set to be released in 2021. With the fickle nature of memes, it will be interesting to see if the ‘meme-ing’ of Karen will still be relevant by the time of release.
