Falling in love is one of the best feelings. Everything seems brighter, even your heart seems to shine with an inner glow. You find yourself overflowing with joy. Everything just seems more pleasant. You let yourself become more vulnerable; you share your fears, your hopes, your dreams

…but sometimes it doesn’t work out.

And every part of you just fractures. It feels as though your whole world has come crashing down. The very fibre of your being goes numb, and you question why you weren’t enough. Olivia Rodrigo’s album Sour truly captures the tumultuous maelstrom emotion heartbreak can bring.

As reported in Nylon, Olivia Rodrigo said,

“I want it to be super versatile…My dream is to have it be an intersection between mainstream pop, folk music and alternative rock…I’m going to try and take all of my sort of influences and inspirations and kind of make something that I like.”

Sour was released on May 21st and is the artist’s debut album. Originally, it was intended to be an EP record. However, after the success of her single ‘Driver’s License’ the EP was expanded into an album.

‘Driver’s license’ has garnered more than 226 milllion views on YouTube since its premiere on the 8th of January 2021.

Olivia Rodrigo is best known for her role as Paige in Disney’s Bizaardvark. Additionally, she has portrayed Nina Salazar-Roberts in Disney’s High School Musical: The Musical: The SeriesGeffen Records, through which Sour was released, is the current label the artist is signed with.

The album seems to have resonated with the public. Sour debuted at number 1 on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Album Chart. Meanwhile, single ‘good 4 u’, peaked at number 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart. ‘good 4 u’ also reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.

In addition to its numerous achievements, ‘good 4 u’, has also recently broken the record for most global Spotify streams in a week. ‘Driver’s License’, another one of Olivia Rodrigo’s compositions, previously held the record.
