Lamb has just premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and has been praised for its horrific original story. The film’s trailer is online preserving the plot of the film and setting up the atmosphere.

The movie starring Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Prometheus) has yet to have a confirmed release date outside the festival. Rapace also stars alongside Icelandic actors Hilmir Snaer Gu∂nason and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson. The allows a return to Iceland for Rapace, who grew up in Iceland and began her acting career.

The trailer for Lamb gives almost nothing away about the plot but instead displays beautiful shots and eerie imagery. It seems to constantly give off uncomfortable feelings as if something is not right.

Besides the humming, the trailer had absolutely no dialogue which you don’t even notice due to the imagery speaking volumes. The trailer’s creepy sound effects like scratching, humming, breathing, and animal noises seem to be enough for the film’s music.

Lamb‘s trailer resembles other A24 favourites like The Witch, Midsommar, and The Killing of a Sacred Deer. These films share an intense build-up hiding the plot for as long as possible.

“In usual A24 fashion, the trailer showcases a film that goes against the grain of Blockbuster-horror tropes.”

Story

A childless couple living on a farm in Iceland come across an odd discovery in the offspring in one of their sheep. The offspring turns out to be unnaturally born with the body of a human infant and the head of a sheep. The couple, desperate for a child, adopt the creature as their daughter. This vague description is all we have in regard to the story of the film. It seems like a folktale come to life.

A review from IndieWire explains the film’s plot in detail, however, the writer of the article points out the film is best experienced blind. The review states, “The contrast between genuine depth and the silliness of the underlying concept is exactly what gives the movie such unique if simplistic, appeal.”
