Nokia Re-Releases Its Iconic 6310 ‘Brick’ – And It Still Has Snake

Here’s your daily dose of early 2000’s nostalgia: Nokia is re-releasing its famous 6310 “brick”. 20 years since its debut, the design is making a comeback – featuring the original Snake game.

In 2001, The Nokia 6310 was the best available mobile phone. If money was no object, it was one of the best phones on the market. The brand new Nokia revival features many of the phone’s original, iconic design features. It still boasts a super long battery life and typically sturdy form. New additions include bigger buttons, a zoomed-in menu and a slightly upsized screen (now 2.8 inches instead of the 1.8-inch screen on the original).

The original “brick” is known for its indestructible nature – and the new model sports a similarly durable body. The new silhouette is one with a curved screen, with improvements to readability and accessibility.

A description from Nokia explains that the update also has “a host of classic features you know and love: a wireless FM radio, an impressive battery that can go weeks between charges, and let’s not forget the classic Snake.”

“It’s all built in a tough shell,” the company adds, “so it can take life’s bumps.”

Simpler Tech

Over recent years, there’s been a rising interest in simpler phone technology. In part, this is to avoid the unreasonable pricing of phones such as the iPhone 13 Pro, with a price tag of approximately $1,699.

The new Nokia 6310 will only set you back £59.99. Nokia’s parent company, HMD Global, introduces the remake of the Nokia 6310, by the same name. It’s a cheap, compact phone which looks a lot like the original, with updates to make it useable today. The phone’s familiar appearance and functional keyboard will appeal to buyers.

Nokia’s official website states,

“The new Nokia 6310 takes the iconic silhouette of the original and brings it up to date with some great new additions… The Nokia 6310 is the familiar phone, for the modern world.”

Specs-wise, the 6310 has a 2.8-inch display with curvy edges, a numerical keypad, 8MB of RAM, 16MB of storage (expandable to 32GB via microSD cards), a rear 0.3-megapixel camera, and FM radio. Much simpler than the devices we have become accustomed to in 2021.

Per Mashable, the 1,150mAh battery can last for “weeks” between charges — just like the one on the original 6310.

Sadly, the new design bears little resemblance to the original Nokia 6310. The original model appears in a three-tone design, available in a variety of colour combinations. The new model comes in four colours. Dark green, yellow, black, and light blue (India only).

The Nokia 6310 stands as one of the most popular phones of the early 2000s. Famously unbreakable, it also boasts limited web access, SMS capabilities and operation of simple programmes. First announced in 2001, it was subsequently discontinued in 2005.

The new Nokia 6310 can be purchased via the Nokia website.
