Kim Kardashian announced on Monday that her shapewear and clothing firm, Skims, is working on a limited-edition collection with Fendi. It goes live on fendiskims.com and at select Fendi stores on Nov. 9 at 9 a.m. EST.

Months of Rumours

An Instagram photo featuring Kim Kardashian, Donatella Versace, and Fendi’s creative director showed up on the social media platform recently.

Kim K’s role in the project is now more clear, after months of rumours surrounding the collaboration. KK shows off a logo-heavy capsule collection on Instagram, including hosiery, bodysuits, puffer jackets and bodycons, embossed with dual designs.

The first half of the collection appears in Fendi’s signature earth tones, whilst the other half is more Kardashian in confectionary, bright pink hues. Per Page Six,

“The innovation in fabrics and fit typical to Skims paired with the luxury and quality of Fendi may feel unexpected to some people, but the similarities between our creative vision and goals are so closely aligned,”

Kardashian said in a press release.

“It’s that tension that excites me.”

Photo Leak

After “Fendace”, this Fendi shapewear collaboration is one of the fashion industry’s worst kept secrets. Photographs of the upcoming collaboration appeared online earlier this month. The images swiftly made rounds around the internet.

A Manchester-based personal shopper first leaked the information via photographs of the stock to her Instagram stories a few weeks ago.

Crop-tops and tight skirts, in addition to long and short-sleeved versions imprinted with a Fendi logo are amongst the designs. The items appear in cream and bright red, constructed with a thicker, scuba-like material, with images embossed into the fabric.

A New Chapter

Fendi is hoping to start a new chapter following the passing of Karl Lagerfeld (Fendi’s 54-year creative director) in 2019.

Before being recruited to run Dior, former CEO Pietro Beccari moved the brand upmarket and restored its historical focus on fur in its marketing.

In the years leading up to Lagerfeld’s death, the Rome-based company reached unprecedented heights of visibility and crossed the €1 billion mark in yearly sales.

The upcoming Jones x Kardashian collaboration is supported by a years-long friendship, with KK showing support both in the front row of his shows and on Instagram.

A Significant Step Forward

Following reports of the crossover, Kim Kardashian officially announced the relationship on Instagram, featuring herself in the new shapewear.

The limited-edition collection is Skims’ first premium collaboration, representing a significant step forwards for Kardashian.

According to the press release, it is inspired by the late Karl Lagerfeld’s historical Fendi collection from 1979. Kim Jones, Fendi’s artistic director, revealed how the collaboration eventuated in a press release. He says,

“My team and I were sitting around a table at the studio in Rome. Suddenly, all the women went silent and started looking at their phones. I didn’t know what was going on, but they were waiting for the launch of the new SKIMS collection. It was then that I thought, ‘Let’s do something together.”

KK’s size-inclusive brand, offering sizing between XXS and 4X, launched in 2019. It has since expanded into loungewear and lifestyle clothing.

“Both FENDI and SKIMS have a cultural power very different from each other, but equally as strong,”

Kim Kardashian states in the same press release.

“We share a desire to push boundaries, think differently and challenge convention which is why we found so much common ground collaborating on this collection together.”

Skims x Fendi goes live on November 9 at 6am PST or 9am EST at fendiskims.com.
