Plans are almost impossible to make during this new wave of Omicron. There’s good news for fashion lovers, however. New York Fashion Week’s upcoming fall 2022 presentation is still set to take place; here’s your first look at the event.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America and IMG have put out the official schedule for New York Fashion Week’s fall 2022 season. The programme runs from February 11 to February 16, 2022, combining digital, by-appointment and public shows.
NYFW Fall 2022 is unlikely to be a traditional fashion event. A mix of “digital activations,” live runways, presentations and live-stream runways appear on the calendar.
American fashion brands Tory Burch, Coach, Proenza Schouler, Michael Kors, and Anna Sui continue their stint as placeholders at the event. Dion Lee and Area return to the show after a sitting out of late.
At this stage, it’s still unclear whether the schedule is running in-person or digital shows. Designers are free to work their presensations around the conditional schedule, as precautions for Omicron variant change. Several brands are confirmed to make digital-only contributions, including Adam Lippes, Imitation of Christ, Sandy Liang, Theophilio, and others. Despite uncertainties, the schedule is energising and exciting with several emerging talents. These include Dauphinette, Judy Turner, Loring, Luchen, Melke, Connor McKnight, Saint Sintra, and Elena Velez.
Undeniably one of the most well-known designers in the United States, Tom Ford announces on January 24 that he is no longer showcasing his fall 2022 runway show due to the pandemic.
Ford says in a statement that he is “incredibly disappointed” to opt out of New York Fashion Week altogether.
“We have struggled internally over the past month with many of our staff out with Covid in our design studio and atelier in Los Angeles as well as in our factories in Italy. We have tried everything possible to avoid cancelling our New York show but ultimately are faced with the sad fact that we will simply not have a completed collection in time….” Ford says.
Ford is set to release his Fall 2022 collection via digital lookbook at a later date.
Thom Browne also reveals in a statement that he won’t be showing at New York Fashion Week 2022 as a result of COVID-19 logistics. His followers are able to see a rescheduled physical show with a new date of April 29.
How to stream NYFW 2022
Spring Studios, among other Manhattan locations, is still the home of New York Fashion Week. Those who live outside of New York City can watch most of the shows online.
Many designers, as in previous years, will stream their runways on their respective social media platforms. Meanwhile, nyfw.com is live-broadcasting shows on their website.
