When the 2022 Grammys referred to him on 4 April, Abloh was a “Hip Hop Fashion Designer”. The tribute took place during their ‘In Memoriam’ segment. Did they not know who Louis Vuitton’s artistic director was?

It’s no secret that Virgil Abloh has a history with the Hip Hop genre. His work with Kanye West and others is well-known.

Abloh frequently invited hip hop artists to participate in his Louis Vuitton and Off-White runway shows. However, his resume was extensive, and his influence spread far beyond the fashion world. Labelling him “Hip Hop” is definitely an unusual way to honour him at the Grammys.
