The show is adapted from Neil Gaiman’s DC comic. The series was published from 1986 – 1996. It is classed as a supernatural fantasy horror – that’s a mouthful – which will win the hearts of those with a passion for the unnatural. The show is due to arrive on the popular streaming service on August 5, 2022.

WHAT IS THIS SERIES ABOUT?

“I am the king of dreams, ruler of the nightmare realm,” Sturridge says in a voiceover. There is no doubt that Netflix brings a new meaning to the words weird or strange. This new Netflix adaptation is no exception. “The Sandman” is set to star actor Tom Sturridge as the main protagonist.

The show is comparable to experiencing a bad dream, in a good way. Coincidently, the main character’s name is Dream, aka Morpheus, aka The Sandman. His character is one of The Endless. Consider them a dysfunctional, darkly adventurous family.

The series will commence with a mistaken identity capture of Dream. In the hopes of capturing the Spirit of Death, occultists end up with The Sandman – talk about a disappointment.

Episode one begins in the period 1916 where Dream is captured. After a century of false imprisonment, his escape is highly anticipated. The world as he new it is in chaos, his new goal to restore his beloved kingdom of the Dreaming.

According to Netflix, via The Nerdist website, their description of the show is everything fans can hope for,

“A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven, The Sandman follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic—and human—mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.”

WILL THERE BE MORE THAN ONE SEASON?

At this point in time it has only been confirmed for season 1. However, the first season will most likely cover the first two volumes – ‘Preludes and Nocturnes’, as well as ‘The Dolls House’ of Gaiman’s comic series. These two volumes include Dream’s escape from imprisonment, as well as following his journey to reclaim objects of power.

Furthermore, the first season is set to consist of 11 episodes, which will most likely be around an hour long. Check out the trailer below:
