This week’s #1 trending video on Youtube comes from Technoblade, in the wake of his passing, with “So Long Nerds”. 

Alexander a.k.a Technoblade was a 23-year-old American gamer and youtube known for his Minecraft content. Sadly, in August 2021, Technoblade was diagnosed with a type of cancer – Sarcoma. Throughout his fight, he started a new fundraiser called “Minecrafters Vs Cancer”. Sadly, on June 30th 2022, he passed away. Technoblade was also known throughout the Minecraft community for his skill in Player-versus-player combat. Throughout his gaming career, his numerous collaborations with other YouTubers have become famous.

Technoblade’s video, “So Long Nerds” is now the #1 Trending video on Youtube. In this video, his Dad announces the heartbreaking news.

The video also features a script by Technoblade, sharing one last message with his dedicated audience before his passing. He thanks his audience for their dedication and how much he enjoyed being Technoblade. He states that if he had one hundred more lives he would always choose to be Technoblade. He even apologises for ‘Selling out’ over the past year with merch.

But now, his siblings can afford to go to college if they want, thanks to the money from the sales. His Dad shares the reason behind delivering his son’s final message. He also tells the story behind the message – how much Technoblade wanted to send a final message even though he was struggling to. He passed away eight hours after he wrote the message. His Dad goes on to share more about his son and how amazing of a kid he was and thanks Technoblade’s audience for meaning a lot and doing so much for his son.

Why is it so Popular?

This video’s popularity is due to how much Technoblade meant to his fan base and the gaming community. This announcement declares an era of mourning throughout this community. It is a testament to the impact he leaves behind. That and the career he created for himself, and how much this community will miss him.

What does this say about our Culture?

It is difficult to say what this video tells us about our culture as a whole, but I think it really displays the importance and significance of online communities. Communities that are brought together by a single person who shares their passions, who gives a place of comforts online such as Youtube and Twitch. For most of Technoblade’s career, not many people knew any personal details about him – including his name and never saw his face. Even though his community didn’t know him personally they still cared for him, enjoyed his content and connected with others within his fan base. Now that he has sadly passed away, it has devastated his fanbase and audience, who mourn his death along with his family and friends.
