Venroy, an iconic Australian brand est. 2011, is set to go global with its first ever overseas store in Capri. From a modest start in Bondi, the brand has expanded to five stores across Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. All of the stores are clean, light, and beachy. The Capri store adds stainless steel bars and coloured fluorescent lights for a European glow.
Venroy’s camp collar shirts are a must-have for an Australian summer, and it looks like the Bondi-based brand is now claiming the European summer as well. The designer of leisure and swimwear, which was started by Sean Venturi in 2011, has opened its first store outside of the United States. It is on the island of Capri, which is near Naples.
Nostalgic Feelings
The new store’s designee is in-house architect Sarah l’Anson. She carefully chooses furniture to display merchandise reminiscent of a hotel experience. The director, Sean Venturi, hopes that this will evoke memories of a place once visited. “Nostalgia is a key component of our spaces,” Venturi tells Vogue.
“When you walk into our stores, we want you to feel transported, we want to evoke a fond memory of somewhere you visited once and will never forget.”
“For just a moment, we want to take you back there.” How better to do that than to bring something from home to Italy?
And its use of natural materials, with the Capri store home to an Australian Biedermer walnut display cabinet from the 19th century. The details stray from its Australian stores, with mid-century Italian furniture and a vintage Meblo chandelier lamp.
This brings a relaxing Australian vibe to a Euro market, with a nod to the brand’s Italian heritage. The chairs outside face the Mediterranean, inviting relaxation. This also encourages a shopping experience which is both playful and practical. Yes, we might want to escape, but we want to do it in Venroy.
Expansion
Venturi says this expansion is the most important the company has made and ensures the future global market. Refreshing and fun, Venroy’s swimwear and natural fibre loungewear transports us; either literally or not, to a lovely beachside location we enjoyed a while back.
